At Deathwish Barber Co in West Footscray, you can expect to be greeted like an old friend, socialise over a coffee or cold beer, and get a slick cut all at the same time.
The barbers at Deathwish specialise in a range of skills, from classic grooming techniques; skin fades, cut throats, tapers, to unique services such as the hair and beard ‘The Deathwish Hot Towel Service’ which includes some serious pampering!
Their mission? To have every customer leave with a fresh look that reflects their unique personality with confidence.
When professional photographer and musician Jake Dargaville opened Deathwish in July 2019, he knew he wanted to open a barber shop that wasn’t just about getting a trim.
So Deathwish is all about community. It’s a place where you can have a conversation with your barber and know that someone cares about what you have to say. Banter is part of the unique customer experience.
Jake’s community mindedness also means that he’s preparing to launch a Deathwish mobile van service in conjunction with grassroots not-for-profit Christmas on the Streets. His team will be doing street runs, offering free haircuts and coffee to homeless men and women all around Melbourne.
Jake has more big plans for Deathwish. He’s expanding the current space on Ashley Street West Footscray to incorporate a private tattoo studio plus opening up a St Kilda store with a Mexican-themed beer garden, tattoo shop and barber.
He’s also decking out a portable shipping container to become a barbershop and tattoo studio, so that you can experience Deathwish at music festivals.
The business’ tagline says it all: Deathwish means to Shave Style Smile!
