“Guaranteed Results…Or Your Old Body Back”!
That’s the bold promise that Adam Mulvaney proclaims at his Yarraville fitness studio.
Training local clients
Adam has been running group fitness and personal training sessions in and around Yarraville for over fifteen years, starting out training local clients in Yarraville Gardens.
“My family live in Yarraville, my kids go to school in Yarraville and I’m really embedded in the community,” Adam explains. “So when I decided it was time to start training my clients in a space that wasn’t the local park or my home studio, it was only natural that I looked for a space in Yarraville.”
Gamon Street studio
Adam set up his Gamon Street studio himself and was just getting ready to open his doors in the last week of March 2020. Then the pandemic stay-at-home orders were put in place.
“I was only open for a week before I had to shut. It was heartbreaking. But I’m so ingrained in the community that people were really supportive,” Adam says. “So there I was, training people on Zoom and in my driveway. I also trained people in Yarraville Gardens again. I’d be there at 6am and still there at 9pm, under the spotlights with the mozzie spray out!”
“It was hard, but I just wanted to help people out. Everyone really needed a reason to leave the house, to talk to someone else who wasn’t their family, and I wanted to provide that outlet for them. I ended up running up to eighty training sessions a week!”
While Adam has been passionate about fitness since his teens, his journey to owning Fit Squad has not been straightforward.
First dumbbells when I was thirteen
“I got my first dumbbells when I was thirteen and joined my first gym when I was sixteen. I even started a personal training course when I was nineteen. But I ended up training as a specialised machine mechanic repairing sewing machines, moved into designing and manufacturing contemporary furniture and even worked as a VIP croupier at one point.
“It was the death of my father in my 30s that made me stop to assess what I wanted to do with my life.
“I realised that my passion is helping people and my life’s purpose is to help others through fitness.”
At Fit Squad, Adam prides himself in working with individuals and small groups so that everyone gets personalised attention. All clients are part of a welcoming, friendly community and he aims to create a positive environment for all people of all ages to achieve their fitness goals.
Adam practises what he preaches too – his next big fitness goal is to climb Mt Everest.
“After my Dad passed away, it made me realise that there’s no time like the present. He died suddenly, pretty young, and didn’t get to do a lot of things.
“So climbing Mt Everest is on my bucket list. I’ve gotten as far as Base Camp and climbed the extreme route of Mt Kilimanjaro in record time, so I feel that Mt Everest is an achievable summit with the right mindset and training.”
