Lueth Variety Shop

The first thing that catches your eye when you enter Lueth Variety Shop are the neat piles of vibrant coloured cloth lining the shelves.

“We import our fabric from Thailand and Ghana,” explains the owner, Moses Lueth. “It’s what we’re known for - no other store in Little Africa in Footscray stocks the high quality fabrics that we have.”

Other best sellers include hair wigs and extensions in a dizzying array of styles and colours, colourful jars of hair products imported from USA, Canada, China and Africa and traditional handbags beaded with the flag of South Sudan.

Moses left South Sudan in 2007 and arrived in Melbourne to complete a Bachelor of Business. After finishing his degree he opened Lueth Variety Shop to serve the growing African community in Melbourne’s west, starting with importing African groceries and other hard-to-find African products.

“My customers appreciate the wide variety of stock I sell, plus I’m friendly and the service is quick,” smiles Moses. “I have customers travel from all over Melbourne – I even have people travel from Gippsland to visit my shop!”
