If you’re looking for traditional Polish smallgoods and treats in Melbourne, you can’t go past Deli 4 You.
The petite grocery store and delicatessen is a well-known hub for Melbourne’s Polish and Eastern European communities. People come from all over the city to Edgewater, Maribyrnong, to stock up on traditional smallgoods, confectionery and delicious Continental cakes. Afterwards, they often stop for a cup of fresh organic coffee and a chat with the friendly owner Sylvia Sowa and her mother, Grace.
Sylvia started the family business 10 years ago because she wanted to maintain the traditions of her Polish family.
While Sylvia and Eric were building their house in Maribyrnong, they came across the shopfront at Edgewater – and the idea for a local deli specialising in Polish goods took shape.
Inside Deli 4 You, you’ll find imported items from Poland – including alcohol – and continental meats made using traditional methods and sourced from Melbourne suppliers.
If you have a sweet tooth you can’t miss the array of Polish cakes, freshly baked by Eric’s Continental Cakes in Braybrook using traditional recipes – you won’t find any shortcuts and pre-mixes here.
They’re particularly famous for their pillowy poppy seed rolls and strudels, the baked cheesecakes and fresh fruit danishes. You’ll have to get in quick for the daily delivery of plum jam-filled doughnuts because they sell out by the afternoon!
