It was inevitable that Megan Anderson would own her own hairdressing salon one day.
As a child, Megan used to watch her mum, a home-based hairdresser, cut and style hair. As a teenager, Megan’s first job was to sweep the floors at the local hairdresser – and just for fun she’d regularly do her friends’ cuts and colours.
After completing her vocational education she trained with Aveda’s natural, organic hair care products – so when it came to opening her own salon she knew exactly how she wanted to run it.
At Satori Hair in Kingsville, Megan uses sustainable, low toxic and no-toxin products only. Her salon is a comfortable and safe space, where clients feel like they’re part of a family and a community. She calls her staff ‘technicians as well as psychologists”.
Megan’s aim is for every person to walk out feeling empowered; to feel good about themselves and to feel lighter walking out. Not just because they have had a trim, but because they feel a lightening of a spiritual and mental weight.
And why did she open Satori Hair in Kingsville?
“It felt so right to open my first salon here,” explains Megan. “My nanna and pop lived in West Footscray and I just love the grounded, kind and beautiful community of the inner west.”
